Total distance 28 km
Difference in altitude 1270 m

Maps Kompass No. 74 and 79
Turn into Weissensteinstraße in the centre of Leifers, go past the church and town hall and on up to the fork in the road where you take the red-white marked route that takes you past Gasthof Moser on to Brantenbachtal. The ascent begins in earnest here.
The difference in altitude is 18% in some places. At Gasthof Thaler the tarmac road ends.
This path is very difficult because of the many stones and sometimes in the first kilometre you will have to dismount. You will pass a white holy image and then the path will become more level for a few hundred metres. After the smooth rock that limits the path and a cross at 950 m above sea level, you will reach the beginning of the valley. On the right there is a signpost 'P-Petersberg' to Weissenstein, but it is not advisable to take this, or just possibly for a descent. Continue upwards, cross the meadow of the Hackl house and pass by a fountain. Because of the ascent and subsoil the next section will again be difficult. After two bends you will leave the wood and reach the tarmac road. Continue upwards between the meadows in the direction of Deutschnofen. Go on for 20 m on the national road (on the right) and then follow the route marked '2' fixed on the corner of a wall. Continue between the houses and follow the route marked 'E5'.
Take the path through the meadow, then the short section of tarmac and after a farm go downhill in order then to cross the national road. Pass two houses and at the following crossing at a large cross, turn left. On a tarmac section after a short descent you will arrive at the inn 'Zur Kehr' at 1360 m above sea level. Continue on the path in the direction of 'Sega Alta' that leads along the crossroad and after crossing Rohrbach, a brook, you will face another ascent. After a right turn, you maintain the actual direction as the crossroad is no longer passable, and reach Weissenstein at 1521 m.
The return to Leifers begins in the car park below the church on the right of the railway station at Weissenstein. The holy images of the stations of prayer, that can be found at regular intervals, will also show you the direction. Continue straight ahead and after crossing the national road Petersberg-Deutschnofen continue on the path (signpost '1-Leifers'), that leads past the inn Munter. A good bit of the following section demands fitness and attention as the path is narrow and the subsoil is sometimes stony. You will then arrive at the path coming from Petersberg and soon arrive at the old and abandoned inn Halbweg.
You will quickly reduce altitude and come to a crossing where you leave route '1'. After a bend you start the last difficult descent. The path has been concreted to make it passable, however you will have to control the descent by constantly using your brakes. You can then make one last stop at the small church of St. Peter. The descent ends at Gasthof Moser and from there you can go on down to Leifers.
