Das Wandergebiet in den Dolomiten
From the crossing in the village centre go up the Fleimstalerstraße
350 m above sea level and turn right at a wooden signpost showing 'Mazoner
Spazierweg'.
After a short rather steep section you reach a tarmac road. Continue on this
road in a wide sweeping bend to the left until you come again across the signpost
'Mazoner Spazierweg'. Leave the road there and turn southwards into cart track.
Follow this to the signpost 'Zur Kirche'. It is 5 minutes from the crossing to
Mazzon's church. This path leads on to a tarmac path that will take you in a
southerly direction climbing gently through Mazon Plateau. The most southern
point of the walk is a sharp bend to the left with a signpost 'Hochweg zur Ruine'
and a bench offering a splendid view of the valley.
The walk climbs in a northerly direction past two raised hides and then downwards
to a fork. You turn right there past a farm with a beautiful cross on its facade
and just walk along the edge of the wood until you reach the last farm (road
barrier).
Immediately afterwards turn left (signpost 'Zur Ruine'). You are now heading
in the direction of the valley on white-red marked route no. 3 down to the ruins
at Caldiff. You will want to take a rest when you reach the impressive
setting of these ruins. The way back to Neumarkt continues on route no. 3. Whoever
wants to make a short detour can follow the signpost 'Zur Lochmühle' and
then on to Neumarkt.
